I have been looking for a source of this aluminium "T" piece trim for a long time - with no success
It's the strip that fits between the wing/running board and the body and is often missing or badly corroded. Unfortunately my Cabrio came without it so I need to find some - especially difficult because it is a single 3.5 m piece
Irritatingly, no-one appears to be able to help, indeed no-one seems to reply to my requests (except Omicron who can't supply it), so I have decided to get some made
Before I go ahead and sign the order, does anyone know of a source ? Would anyone else be interested in buying some ?
I could fit a plastic or fabric version , but it wouldn't be right ......
I will have to get a certain quantity made, which is too much for my car, so if anyone will commit to buying some for their car/project, I would be happy to make it available at an attractive cost, however, if I take on the whole manufacturing cost myself, future prices will be higher !
So have a think and let me know !

Hi Simon, I'm interested. My 1937 Aprilia was bought with plastic beading between wings and body.
Cheers,
William

Is there not a shiny 'chrome' plastic trim available? I temporarily used something once many years ago from a Leyland Mini to replace a corroded aluminium trim on a B20.
Also I seem to remember that at Padova Mostra Scambio once there was a company who sell all sorts of aluminium extrusions.
Could you post an image of the cross section required - would it be similar for example to the external aluminium trim which sits between the rubber seal and the body around the rear window on early Aurelias.
If it is, I think I know of a restoration shop who were looking at getting an extrusion made.

Isn't there an 'old school' VW Beetle trim between the wings and body which could be bought in a shiny finish?

Have you put the question to the Australian register or up on the LMC Facebook page?

I presume you have checked out Woolies. https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/category/113/aluminium-sections?pagenum=1
-
I will have a look and see if the Ardea (2nd series) is the same.
Have you some idea of cost?

This might work

Thanks everyone
I have received samples from Woolies, vintage supplies and others, and though they would work, they just will not look correct. I have heard about a chrome-look plastic that would be very easy to fit, but again it isn't right and how long will it last ?
I have bought some Woolies aluminium trim for the running board tread
I don't do FB so no access to the Australian register, but I have done extensive searches to no avail.
This trim is quite difficult due to the depth of the vertical flange, and getting the "flat" semi-circle top right. I will dig out a photo and profile diagram later today
I will be in touch with those of you who have expressed an interest and share some costing plans - Thanks again for your interest

I do not know who is making any at the moment, but I do know that James Parry fitted some earlier this year to an Aprilia. Have you spoken to him? If you go down the route of getting some made, I too would be interested in some for my Aprilia project.
Best wishes
Dave

Thanks Dave, as you say James did make some but that required cutting down and re-profiling another trim. I have had a good chat with him and he said that it took an inordinate amount of time ..... so James may be interested in some new, correct profile as well !
I am waiting for a sample to arrive from the potential suppliers, and will update as and when I have news

Hi Simon!
I, too, am interested in this trim. I will check my wing trim at the weekend to see how good it is.
Are you hoping to source a curved section for wings as well as a straight section for the running boards?
Regards,
Tim

My Ardea which has never been touched has a smaller section, just over 7mm whereas the April is about 9mm
I am interested in joining in.

A little bit more detail on the trim
Once the extrusion has been made it will need to have cutouts and slots made on the back edge in order to fit it correctly, the cutouts are for the wing bolts
Plus a view of the section to be made, measurements taken from an original piece

From my iPhone so sorry if typos....
I have just agreed to make the tooling so this project will be going ahead - if anyone else wants to join in please let me know asap because it will be a while before I can make another batch
Merci Simon

I need something similar (vaguely) for my S1 Appia but it is of a different profile.

Whilst on subject of body strips , I have just put a 2.0 Lancia hpe ie back on the road after 19 years in a barn , I’m looking for passenger rear wing body strip and aluminium decor strip to hatch . Any help would be appreciated thanks
-
Hi Yarni
Good luck, IMHO, I think the HPE is the best of the Betas (cat among the pigeons ?) and I am sure a Beta specialist will help. However, remaking these trims will be possible, as with any part or fabric, so long as you can get enough people interested .....
-
I have just signed the tooling order for this and have agreement from enough people to justify the first batch, this is a last shout to say that if anyone else is interested, PLEASE let me know because it will be a while before I am likely to get another batch made
Thanks
-
A final note on this one, I have just received the trim, cut into the various lengths and ready to pack and send.
It is a perfect reproduction of the original and I am very happy with it .......
A big 'Thank You" to everyone who joined in and made it possible, because this is the first time the trim has been available for many years (and at a sensible price) and it is unlikely that I will make any more for a while
-
Having sent out the batches to interested parties , we have started a trial fit on a rear wing on the Cabrio
The photos tell the story !
-
Good work. Not planting today then??
-
My question is why the drill chuck in the drill chuck?
-
Tim , still waiting for it to dry up , but I have finished pruning for this year , so every cloud and all that
David, the big chuck is too big for the small drill, so, step-down chucks !
-
I would be interested, as well. I did try to have some made and found that extruders just were not interested, even when I offered to pay for tooling and agreed to take the huge minimum amount - some 1,000 metres. I also tried another avenue that I thought would be better - a polished aluminium-coloured vinyl. This would not corrode, as the original aluminium piece did, and would be much easier to fit. In the end, I gave up and used the rubber one from Cicognani. My plan is to try painting it, using aluminium- coloured paint. I expect this would eventually wear off or require renewing.

Hi Peter, I have sent you an email, but if anyone else is interested , please let me know to see if I can make another batch
-
Just to let you know that I have had enough interest to make another batch - I have made an extra set this time so if anyone is interested please contact me asap
-
Hello Simon, please add me to the list. Many thanks, Andrea
