Hello All,
My attention has moved on to the fuel tank after a short run of the rebuilt engine showing healthy oil pressure.
Does anyone know if the brass fitting that takes the fuel gauge sender unit (picture below) is screwed in or soldered to the tank. I am nervous about using too much heat or force but would like to remove it. The gauge mechanism is in good condition but the cord that should be attached to a float (I guess?) has rotted through. In order to fit a new float and cord this brass fitting has to come out!
Many thanks for any guidance.

Turns out it’s threaded!!
Now to source a replacement float………

Would an Aprilia one work ? I have a couple of spares. Do you have the depth and diametre ?

Perhaps the float is still in the tank?

Would they fit an Aurelia too Simon?

Simon and Karl,
Thanks for the replies……Karl is dead right (as usual!) the float was still in the tank, embedded in 50 year old gunk from old fuel. The top half has come out after much fiddling and use of carb cleaner and petrol, but the bottom is still to be dug out. It looks well beyond repair so I’ll have to come up with an alternative. Simon many thanks for the offer of help, as I don’t know what an Aprillia float is like I attach a couple pictures.

The float is similar in principle to the Aprilia, I'll measure one up in the morning. It also has the loop on the top for the string

Hi Simon, Just checking in to see if you think an Aprilia float would work and if so, might you have one?
