This year the Lancia Motor Club will again be displaying at the Footman James Classic Motorshow at the NEC, from 11 to 13 November.
This really is the flagship Classic Carshow on the year, and we aim to make sure there is a good presence of excellent Lancia's. As most of you know, last year we won the award for the stand displaying the most interesting variety of vehicles. No mean feat.
This year we plan to commemorate some Lancia Anniversaries, and will be supported by stands from the Montecarlo Consortium and the Beta Forum (Betaboyz).
However, what we really do need is some help in setting up and breaking down the stand. Stand set up commences mid morning on the Thursday (10th November), and we really do need to get a few volunteers there to help. For the last few years it has been the same couple of people trying to get everything done and working themselves to a frazzle!
So, if you can spare a few hours on Thursday 10th November in the morning, through to mid afternoon, or on the Sunday evening from 5pm onwards, please let me know. We need to arrange exhibitors passes for set up and breakdown, so please let me know as soon as possible.
Many thanks
Andy

All being well folks, hope to meet some of you there. ;)
-
Andy, hope to be able to get some time out to help, depends on how well I am deemed to have behaved between now and then. How soon do you need to know ?

I am taking care of organising the passes. I really need to know in the next three weeks. I will soon be emailing those of you who helped last year to check your availability :)
-
Count me in Stu !!
Andy
-
I have now emailed those of you who helped staff the stand last year and anybody who has offered to help since last years show. If there is anybody who helped last year who has not received the email but wuold like to help again, please contact me.
I have also been working on the stand plan and it looks like we should have a cracking selection of cars on show, subject to the owners agreeing to provide their cars :)

Hi Stuart, Alan and myself were thinking of going to the NEC for the show , If you need help we can be there for the Friday and the Saturday. Thanks David

Hi Stuart
It was suggested to me at the AGM by Roland that an Aprilia rear suspension assembly might make an interesting exhibit at the NEC this year especially with it being the 75th anniversary. I have such a unit which I could bring along although I have to admit it is not exactly chrome-plated. I can clean it up and make it reasonably presentable however.
Presumably you have an Aprilia lined up for the show so might I ask whose it is?

What car's do we have on the stand?

Thank you for the offer, but I don't really have the space to spare on the stand. The stand is slightly smaller than we have had for the last couple of years. In order to allow space around the cars (of which I am planning for six cars), I need to allow a minimum space of 1.5m, which is what I have around each of the cars. This leaves very little space to fit any further displays, especially as it would need to be secured in such a way to prevent it from being moved during the show.
We will have an Aprilia on the stand, but I have not yet had confirmation that we have got the car that we want. Once I have had confirmation of all of the cars, I will post what we will be displaying.

Shall we come up with a theme and do a proper dress up for the NEC? ;D
-
There is a theme for the show but couldn't find it on the website .... Montecarlo Consortium have done it two years ago ... really good.

The theme is "Runs in the family". Montecarlo guys are doing a good interpretation of it with the 'mafia' dress up this year.
-
Mafia is more appropriate to my Aprilia!!
But I am bring some TinTin stuff (minor) - anyone got a stuffed snowy and small boy with ginger hair???
Tim
-
If only you had asked for a small boy with ginger hair 35 years ago Tim. I could have helped. Now, unfortunately, I can only guarantee the presence of a fat, old, bald man. :( Time is cruel!!! :)
-
Time is honest, people are cruel.
You're lucky, most ginger people are
Shunned by society, oh, hang on
;-})

TinTin is a good idea : I *may* have a white dog somewhere (children handpuppet thing) that would look-ish like Snowy.

Talking of Tin Tin I wonder if they've used an Aurelia in the film that's just about to come out!

Nice

I don't think Captain Haddocks beard is as unkempt
as in the original and I'm sure it doesn't start properly
with.... "Herge adventures of Tin Tin"

Great.
Re Brian Havn't seen the film yet but there was a 13 page spread in the local Nice Matin a couple of days ago and not a Lancia in sight...

Hi Steve - just bought a snowy on ebay.
If our very own Peter Watcham is going to NEC he would make a great Capt H!!!

Aw, how very cute! :)
-
Andy, you'll be pleased to know Rhian has now seen your picture as a little lad. She laughed like a drain... But you can get your own back once we circulate pictures of her in her new Australian school uniform - above the knee summer frock and t-bar sandals...
-
Couldn't resist this one - ginger boys and Betas go so well together ;D

Seen the film, 3D on the big screen, unfortunately not a Lancia in sight, but many light 15's & 2CV's plus other period Renaults & Peugeots, a Rolls Royce Phantom & Willys Jeep too.
-
Loved your picture Betaboy but it seemed more appropriate to Halloween than the NEC. Whose grave were you standing on?
-
Only a couple of days to go until the culmination of many months of work when build the stand at the NEC.
For anybody who has an i-phone and is planning to visit the show, there is an app which you can download to help you navigate your way around. If you struggle to find us, you can enter Lancia Motor Club into the app and it will take you directly to our stand. The app can be found at http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/footman-james-classic-motor/id475973466?mt=8. As I don't have an i-phone, I can't really give any more information as I am unable to test it!
The club stand will be in Hall 5 (stand number 5C66), located near to the autojumble and next to the Jaguar stands.
On the stand, we will be showing three anniversary cars: Aprilia, Artena and Gamma berlina. We also have three cars which are always requested at every NEC show: Fulvia coupe, Aurelia B20 and integrale. The theme of the show is "Runs in the Family". I have chosen the latter three cars as the "stradale" versions of cars which have motorsport "running in the family".
I hope you will enjoy the show and I look forward to welcoming many of you to the stand over the course of the weekend.
-
Looking forward to it. I hope to be there on Saturday. The app is great.

Well, just home and seated following four days at the NEC for the Classic Car Show (including set up). To say my feet ache would be an understatement, but what a great event.
So, on behalf of the Committee I need to say a few thanks:
Firstly to Stuart Wilsonfor organising the stand and getting everything in the right place at the right time.
Then to the exhibitors:
Tim Heath and Sarah Heath-Brook for the wonderful Aprilia
Adrian Donovan for his spectacular Aurelia
Richard Henshall for his beautiful Fulvia Coupe
Don and Diana Williamson for their incredible Artena
Giuseppe & Fi Rampello for the stunning Delta integrale Evo2
(and me for the rather nice Gamma Berlina)
To those who gave their time to help with manning the stand and setting up and breaking down
(please accept my apologies if I have missed your name off the list - my memory is failing me!!)
Paul Bishop
Paul Burnett
David Melluish
Simon Davis
Steve Pilgrim
Andy Tait
Martin Dowling
Peter Gerrish
Steve, Margaret and Emma Gales
Rob McFarlane
Terry Pritchard
Mark Lima
Neil Cundy
and thank you Snowy for guarding the stand at night.
Our unique Press Officer excelled herself with her press report that made the show programme, and I know that she generated much press interest for the Lancia
Motor Club - so thank you Julia.
Then I come to our Club colleagues in Betaboyz and the Montecarlo Consortium.
On the Beta front
Steve and Amanda Dodge
Miles and Louse Holman
Mark Wastnidge
Tony Harrison
John Bower
and on the Monte front - you know who you are!!
Jez, David, David, Chris, Paul, John, Andy, Eric.....
So, we had a great time.
We have yet again raised the profile of Lancia in the UK and our Clubs. We have cemented ever stronger links with our satelite
consortia and forums.
And finally. Thank you to all of you who came and said hello over the weekend. It was good to see you, meet up, or reacquaint ourselves with you.
Until next year .... and the planning has already commenced.
Regards
Andy

Andy,
Agreed! Thanks Stuart for all your hard work and it was great to meet everyone again on Saturday.
Good stuff
Neil

Well done all of you! Sorry I missed it.
Colin
-
Well done all of you! Sorry I missed it.
Colin
So am I, but it was a bit far to travel this year...
-
Stuart,
Well done and thank you for organising this.
So that's Great Northern, NEC, and Forum Admin in the same year, ALL on top of committee duties !
Martin.
-
Just to say Snowy really enjoyed the show too and was happy to contribute.
Got home safely in OVS but without functioning indicators. The trafficators worked (but they are un lit - a mod to stop the wiring from being overloaded with the other modern indicators) but turning right no moderns lit - and turning left all indicators worked. That is probably why not many people over took me on the way home. A noisy 160 miles in 2hours 50 minutes - not bad eh!

Stuart, magnificent effort, excellent display and brilliant show. Thanks for putting it together and to all who assisted.
I had a great time, gleaned a huge amount of useful information and met B20 and Gussie owners who are in a similar position to me, in the middle of restorations. Much swapping of tales of agony and expense, but agreement that it was most definitely worth it and tentative arrangements made to meet up.
I hope everyone got home safely and without trauma.
I am now waiting with eager anticipation for next year !!!!

A few words from the press officer (who is still recovering!) ;D
First of all, Stuart - you're a star! Thank you for organising such a wonderful stand and all your hard work!
I know everyone says this, but it was really great to meet all of you this weekend. Thank you to everyone involved and everyone who came over to say hi. And of course, my own personal thank you to everyone for being helpful and patient with me - I know it must have been such a hard work! ;D
Beta Boys (and Girls!) - was lovely to meet you all, roll on 2012 and Beta 40th!
The Monte crowd... one word - priceless. I'm seriously considering getting a Monte now! ;D

A very enjoyable 4 days inspite of the Volvo rear brakes falling apart on arrival at the NEC, the RAC were brilliant all fixed within an hour of the phone call! The journey home was happily trouble free although it was 10.30pm when we got there.
I think my legs are just about back to normal.
Await with interest the photos of the Monte boys in the Artena.
Special thanks to Stuart hope you have a good rest.
Don

Another fantastic show and amazing cars!
Well done to Stu and all involved over the weekend.
Thanks again LMC for the Betaboyz carpet, we had so many positive comments over the weekend how it looked like one display.
Were already planning for next years Beta 40th :)

Your car could have been sold at least three times whilst I was on the stand on Saturday......you're very lucky to get it back :D
-
One of the biggest twinges of homesickness I've had, seeing Tony's photos. Well done all.
