A firefighter once advised me that anything less than a 2.5 kg fire extinguisher is pointless in a car fire. An extinguisher that size is pretty large to have within easy reach of the driver's seat. A fire stick is much, much more compact and works without making the incredible mess that conventional extinguishers make. They are pricy but it's obvious why people are attracted to them.

I also carry a Firestick, sits inside the passenger door pocket, visible and grabbable (hope I never have to).

Have you looked at the Firestick range? Much lighter than a converntional steel bottled system, handheld and effective. Recommended. I haven in each car plus a couple in the house. Luckily never had to use one, they have an almost indefinite life and never need servicing.

One consideration is ease of access to the extinguisher if required.

O wata na Siam (as I was told to sing in Junior school as the Siamese national anthem)      What I thought was zero oil pressure was in fact the needle going whizz round to the stop at maximum!       The problem does not exist - or it does but usually takes only a few seconds for the pressure to come up.

Hi Paul,

It is a hollow box section, with circular pressings to strengthen the panel.  Should be fine to mount a small extinguisher here.

I added a couple of 13mm holes to this panel in my car during restoration and have used them as Waxoyling points.  If the sills fail, water can get into this box from it's ends and corrode the floor.

As a precaution I would like to fit a hand held fire extinguisher (2kg) inside the passenger cabin, but I'm struggling to find a fixing point without ruining the original integrity of the car.  One position that looks promising, is fixing the carrier to the vertical panel directly under the rear seat squab (not sure if that's the correct terminology).  The area behind appears to be hollow, but there's no access to prove this.

If anyone can verify my thoughts or come up with a solution it would be much appreciated.

No problem Frank, I’ll relay the message that between us we can supply a pair. I don’t think he’s bought the car yet

Have a great holiday,

Here's a picture!
Does anyone here know how you are supposed to lock the passenger door? There's no catch under the armrest as I thing there in on the Pininfarina models. The latch won't move downwards.

Thank you!

Very nice.
If it’s the same as the GT, push the door open latch handle forward to lock the doors, works on both drivers and passengers. Also, if you have play (about 1/3 of a turn) in the window winder handle, that’s meant to be there, so you can position the handle after opening the window, so it doesn’t touch your knee  ‘Typical Lancia’, it’s the small details that count.
