For a week or two the handbrake would fly off if you so much as touched it till eventually it wouldn't stay on at all. The pawl didn't seem to hold on the rack of the ratchet mechanism. My spare hand brake is rather tatty so I tried swapping in the rack from that but still had the same issue. The pawl mechanism seems to be riveted into the lever so I couldn't easily swap that. Just fitting the tatty spare hand brake has worked though so she is back in action.

I've used "seek-n-seal" around the edge joint of the glass n the past. I could probably do to apply some again as one of my headlights tends to mist up in wet weather.

David, it's a period steering lock ..... it came with the car in the 70's and I find quite fun, so I've kept it

I popped on a spare wheel for the photo

Lambda / Re: Oil filter

If you order one please be aware that the valves come in manual and electric and have different pressure ranges. You would want one that triggers automatically when the oil pressure drops below normal for the Lambda.

Have you heard of an Accusump? It's a bright blue anodized cylinder that stores oil under pressure. Connected to the engine via an oilway or a sandwich plate on the filter housing it can be triggered by a switch prior to startup to pressurise the engine and reduce start up wear. If you suffer from oil surge/starvation with low pressure during running the Accusump adds oil to the engine and, when normal oil pressure is restored then oil is pumped back into the Accusump ready for it's next call of duty.

Made in the USA it is available here and comes in various capacities - 1, 2 or 3 quarts.

I am in the process of fitting one during my Beta restoration.

What is that strange device in your penultimate picture?

Lambda / Oil filter

The oil filter drains when the engine is not running leading to that agonising wait on starting for the oil pressure needle to move.
Is there any  way to prevent this?

A little issue has arisen with the Y10 as it appears to be filling up with water in the drivers side headlamp. I managed to get some of the water out earlier in the week and parked the car facing south but I noticed yesterday the headlamp was soaked again on the inside...any suggestions?

Hi all
Maximum effort today as I wanted one of the heads finished before I start marking on Tuesday so pleased to say all six valves are in just one problem as Lancia fitted a washer under the large valve spring to stop the aluminium head being damaged by the valve spring but on taking the heads apart these washers laid low and I only realised they were there when some started falling off. So I am one short for this head so I will take one from the spare head I have. I must admit it is a big relief to see the numerous boxes of spares going down in number and the engine looking nearer the big start up! I first had a big clean up of the work area as it was hacky from the lapping in, well worth doing.
