New GTL Owner
« on: 16 May, 2026, 12:51:33 PM »
Hello!

I've just become the very proud owner of a 1967 Flaminia GTL 2.8, my first Lancia but far from my first classic. I thought I should introduce myself; if any of you read The Automobile, Octane, Magneto, Hagerty Drivers Club mag etc. I'm John Mayhead, who writes for those and a few other titles.

My first reaction is that I'm seriously impressed with the car. I'm planning on stretching its legs properly in early June, driving it via the Alps to Lake Como and back with my son.

Welcome, John. Will there be an appraisal in Magneto or The Automobile,  which are the two I enjoy most

Hi Richard,
That's the plan. I love writing for all those publications as they allow longer features, so I can really delve into the history of the model and set the car in its proper context.

Here's a picture!
Does anyone here know how you are supposed to lock the passenger door? There's no catch under the armrest as I thing there in on the Pininfarina models. The latch won't move downwards.

Thank you!

Car looks lovely, a favourite colour.

Have you seen the feature on Touring in Style Auto (first issue)?

Here's a page from it, with what could be your car. Could be a good research source for your article, which I look forward to reading.

DM me if you want the whole Style Auto piece, I have a scan of it I made some years ago.

Thank you, I'd not seen that. It's a beautiful colour, very delicate metallic blue. The cream wheels set it off perfectly.

Very nice.
If it’s the same as the GT, push the door open latch handle forward to lock the doors, works on both drivers and passengers. Also, if you have play (about 1/3 of a turn) in the window winder handle, that’s meant to be there, so you can position the handle after opening the window, so it doesn’t touch your knee  ‘Typical Lancia’, it’s the small details that count.
