20 years ago I undertook the adventure of a lifetime - to drive from the UK to Mongolia on the Mongol Rally.
The rules were simple - the car must have an engine size of less than 1 litre, and once you set off there is no support/backup. Naturally I chose a Y10 as the thinking man's choice. Most other teams had Fiat Pandas, Nissan Micras, Novas or even Minis. Anyway, I found a Y10 Fila for sale from a lovely bloke in Swansea (I think a Lancia club member at the time) and a deal was done.
Disclaimer: I appreciate some people might not like the idea of exporting future classics to the other side of the world, but at the time iy was just the cheapest most logical choice, but I do apologise for removing a roadworthy example from the UK (I like to think I've made amends somewhat by recently importing a Turbo)
We bought the car in January and after some light use we decided by March that it needed a proper shakedown. So an idea was hatched to do a long distance drive - covering the full length of the A470 (Cardiff to Llandudno). Needless to say it performed impeccably, despite the snow in the mountains of North Wales.
Thought I'd share a couple of photos, will add some more of the rally itself as the 20th anniversary approaches...
