Engine - Oil Gasket Leak
« on: 07 May, 2025, 07:52:55 AM »
Just sharing in case of interest to anyone.

My first few days of Belna ownership have been quite exciting. I noticed a considerable amount of oily emulsion in the radiator after my first short drive. Compression test revealed reasonably good results and consistent in all 4 cylinders so the head was removed for inspection. It looks like the gasket partially failed near one of the rear oil galleys. The block was cleaned up and looks in reasonable condition; it’s possibly been skimmed fairly recently so maybe the culprit was a torque issue on the bolts.

Anyway, thankfully a replacement gasket was found in the boot of the car which greatly speeded up repairs. The block was given a fresh coat of paint before reassembly and being returned to the car.

I’m hoping that’s one less job to do over the winter as my wish list for winter refurbishment is already fairly long :)

Out of interest, what tools and running spares do others carry with them? I’d be very interested to know what supplies I should start to accumulate in the boot. Please let me know.

Happy motoring!

Marcus
