Beta Coupe 2000ie

I am considering buying a (Y reg) Beta Coupe 2000ie, it has been converted to a single carb, but apparently does not run very well. The current owner suggests the carb needs a clean out....
Should I convert it back to injection? If so where can I find a complete system please?
Any thoughts on a nice pair of Weber 40's or similar with a new manifold.
Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Hi

Personally I would avoid the original injection system. Fine when working, but a major job to reinstate and not for the faint hearted if you have a problem.

The standard carb setup is so simple and even twin 40s will be an easy install compared to original injection.

If you want to go injection maybe use a modern ECU setup etc?

If you decide on the twin 40's route then make sure you get the correct manifold that deals with the canted back engine and block mounted distributor (unless your injection motor has the cam mounted distributor)

Dear Peter and SanRemo,
Thank you for the advice, I have found out that the complete fuel injection system is in the boot, it was giving trouble, that is why it was taken off.
Sorry to be such a pain, is there a UK company who could clean and service the injection system then re-install it? Could they also fit a new more modern ECU system?
I have spoken with Webcon about converting to IDA Webers, (40's?) they have a manifold for Fiat twin cam engine, but I think that is upright, not inclined, where could I get the correct inlet manifold from please?
I also need an exhaust system, it would be nice to fit a stainless straight through system, are there any "off the shelf" suppliers please?

I have just found that the distributor is on the end of the rear camshaft.
Can you guide me to the correct inlet manifold for twin Webers please?
Side draft or down draft please?
Or, can I have contact details for a company that can fix and upgrade the injection system please?
Also best place to obtain an exhaust please.

Sounds like you do have a modified injection engine for sure.

Whilst I can't point you to anyone able to supply the correct inlet manifold for twin 40's there will probably be someone on the Beta forum which is a lot more active than this one! Come and join the madhouse at

As Guy says, the head at least is from an IE as that had the exhaust cam distributor.

Also as you say the inlet manifold for the Fiat inline engines will not work due to the Betas inclined engine, so you need a specific one. From what I know there is no one making them new, but two sources (and probably more of course) originally were Alquati and Guy Croft for the twin DCOE and Mangoletsi for twin downdraught DCNF. The DCOE ones do come up for sale occasionally on places like Ebay etc and worth asking on the Beta forum mentioned above, as well as posting on the various Beta Facebook forums where you get a much wider audience.

As to who to go to in order to reinstate the injection system, I have no idea, you really need a Jetronic specialist if one exists in the U.K..

On parts for the car such as exhaust etc, first port of call should be Mark at lanciabetaparts.co.uk.

Coincidentally saw a complete engine for sale which had twin DCNF. It is a newly rebuilt engine apparently by company and they have new inlet manifolds available.
