1969 Fulvia Coupe Series 1 Steering Wheel / Horn
« on: 10 April, 2026, 11:30:52 AM »
Good Afternoon
My journey of Fulvia ownership starts today.  Having purchased the car just over a year ago in Germany, yesterday was the first day that I was able to drive it leagally on the roads here in Italy.  It has been a long wait.
After retrieving my car from a Classic Car garage where it has been stored for the past 8 months, the first thing I wanted to do was to install a period correct and original steering wheel which I purchsed on Ebay.  It replaces a much smaller after market Momo item.
My problem is, how does the horn function, am I missing some parts and what does the wire coming out of centre of the steering column connect to as there is no visible obvious connection point?  When I took the Momo wheel off, the wire from the steering column was not connected to anything and was just tucked away.

I have studied an exploded view of a Series I steering column and can identify that I do not have items 21 (insulator), 6 (support for small spring) or 25 (small spring), if anyone can supply these, please let me know.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Paul

the wire connects (soldered) to #6 disk. It is a complicated system.... not only horn but headlamp flashing (there are 2 spring supported bit - the inner push button and the outer ring. I am sorry I do not have any parts (these should have been sold with the wheel....).
Its not the winning but taking part! or is it taking apart?

Thanks for your reply. By all accounts the seller had the steering wheel mounted on a block of wood as an ornament, so I will contact him to see if he has the missing components.  The wheel did come with the 2 steel coloured items in the attached photo, unless these are items 21 & 6 in the exploded diagram, so in which case all I'm missing is the spring!  However, if item 21 is described as an insulator, I woulkd have thought it would be made of rubber.

Thanks once again

Sorry but those are not #6 and #21

The 2 steel parts do not belong and the central wire is for the headlamp flash which is the central button that you have ; BUT you are missing part 6 the contact support which the wire is soldered  with an insulated Lucar connector between)  and 25 the smaller return spring .  Hope this helps.

Hello Derek,
Thanks for your message, much appreciated, and confirms my thoughts.  All I have to do now is somehow source the items, which could involve trying to find a ropey (non expensive) steering wheel with the full compliment of parts.

Deep Joy!

The smaller spring is relatively easy to make or adapt  but the lower connector spring base much more difficult .  I can send you better photos and dimensions if you want to make or adapt either .  I do have a spring but it is currently on ebay along with an S1 wheel and some of the other parts .
