Augusta details wanted
« on: 17 June, 2020, 11:12:38 AM »
Question from Ian Ferguson at the VSCC library: he has received the following email requesting information on an Augusta CCA237.

Good Day,

I'm a car expert from Poland and I'm working on documents for registration Sport Car based on Lancia Augusta from 1934 / 1939.
During preparation of this document I have found information that this car was used by VSCC in an advertising compagnon somewhere between 1979 - 1991.
The car is called a Lancia Race Special, and was registered with registration number CCA237. Chassis number is  342083.

I Would like to please You with  recreating history of that car if it is possible. It might help me with preparing documents for documenting historic vehicle walors.

Thank You in advance
Best Regards
Jarosłąw Ziajka

If we can help Ian the Library tries to answer as many of these enquiries as they can. I do remember someone used to race an Augusta (March Special) briefly, years ago, at VSCC race meetings, I have a mental image of Oulton Park one year.

Any help?

My memory isn't good, but am wondering if its the car that I associate with Robbie Coltrane.

More about it here.

Like Tony I recall it at VSCC Oulton Park in the same scruffy state with the British Salmson engine. That was around 2005. The rest of the original bits must be Augusta. It always puzzled me why Robbie Coltrane would buy it.

I went to see it a few years ago when it was in the south of England and for sale. Horrible thing in a terrible state! The March Special which used to race with us in the VSCC was Mike Wheeler's car, with a previous owner who's name escapes me at the moment.

Once owned by Robbie Coltrane.

Saw it at Oulton it did not go very well.

The March was raced by Terry, was in the Augusta Journal.
