Appia
« on: 02 December, 2025, 02:02:19 PM »
Hi All,

I seemed to have been bitten by the Lancia bug. I purchased a Fuliva S3 not that long ago and realised that I should have purchased a Lancia years ago rather than my usual British classics.

I have seen a Lancia Appia online recently, and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the car?

Thanks

Not a rare car but beautiful. A local friend in a similar Appia just completed a round trip to North Cape from Northern Italy: no trouble at all except soem typre punctures.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. The car does look rather good. The garage that has the car for sale looks after my Fulvia as they have an excellent engineer working for them who understands Lancias. I don't know much about the Appia, but I very much like the look of the car.

The club has an excellent Appia consortium with plenty of parts and advice available. It's probably one of the better supported Lancia models.

Thanks for the plug Frank...The Appia Consortium has been in existence for over 30 years and has a membership of around 30 members all over the world. We currently have approx 600 sq ft of storage dedicated to new and used spares for all parts of the Appia cars from 1953 to 1963. If you are fortunate to purchase the car please get in touch.

I agree with nistri that it is not a rare car. There are many available to buy ranging from £500 for a basket case up to £6-7,000 for a really nice example. The series 1 and 2 are rarer and i think more attractive to look at. I have a series 2 and regret getting LHD (as yours is). The car was orinialy designed to be RHD and the steering column on the LHD versions really makes maintenance items really complicated.  Changing the dynamo and starter motor is virtually impossible without taking the engine out, and dropping the front exhaust section is also difficult.
Try and buy a RHD example and I strongly suggest you take a knowledgable Appia chap along to give it the once over. There are many pits to fall in when buying an unknown example. (I know as I fell in many with mine and see my post on replacing the timig chain). That said they are a delightful car with beautiful suspension and steering characteristics. They are a very underated Lancia. What is the asking price? Not above £6,000 I hope.
PS. One word of warning. If the car has been laid up for a while the brakes will need overhauling. This can be very expensive (£thousands if shot). Do not consider buying unless the brakes work 100% with no shudder or pulling,

Spider2- thank you very much for your incite of the Appia, I have watched many YouTube videos and I now know that the car was designed as a right hand drive so I am now looking at a RHD the chap who used to own my Fulvia has got in touch about an Appia he knows that for sale.
