ZM2 carburettor
« on: 05 January, 2026, 11:07:46 AM »
My Aprilia has a Nardi twin carb setup using Zenith Torino ZM2 carburettors.     Recently it has stopped slow running.   After I emptied out all the foul wet petrol and replaced it is still will not slow run.     Having studied this helpful youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG7aeQoIbHE I surmise that they need gaskets on top of the float chambers - though they never had them before!   I also suspect I need to remove the beak and clean the fine passages underneath.
A gasket set would be helpful but I cannot find one online.   I can always make some for the carb tops but the beak piece would be more difficult.   Maybe I can reuse those already there.
Can anybody direct me to a source of gaskets?     Other carbs have similar beak pieces (but three screws rather than five).
It is currently - degrees in the workshop so I am not going out there again until the weather warms up a bit.

I have no previous dealings to share with you of them, but Dobson Gaskets in Keighley West Yorkshire have been established for 60 years so maybe worth a try ?

If any other LMC member has had dealings, then please elaborate good/bad experience ? Then future people will know.

Good luck

I believe a few years ago Cavalitto bought the gasket & carb rebuild kits supplier just west of Turin ( whose name escapes me). Maybe worth contacting Cavalitto to see if they can help?

I've remade the "beak" gaskets, they take a few minutes as you know. Is the "beak" casting OK ? They can split and become porous and that won't help either

Re top gaskets, I have never had them on any of the carbs that I have or have worked on (Aprilia or Ardea) - why were they suggested on YouTube ? - Maybe to reduce evaporation during standing ???

You may recall that I posted about starting issues with this carb - it became much , much better once I had started using the car more - could this be the case here as well - once everything is clean and tickety-boo ??

I know them very wsell!   Lambda head gaskets come from them to me.    I have made some gaskets myself anyway.

I put the two float chambers on my scanner screen, scanned and printed out x4 on a sheet of A4 (by rotations) so I have plenty spare.  I then stuck it to some gasket material and cut the holes with a set of punches I bought on EBay for a few quid.   I could only find 1.2 mm gasket which is a bit thick but...
It works.
You will notice that one chamber has an extra jet.   This is to feed the starting carburettor on the rear carb.   It does not help if you get the wrong chamber on the rear carb.
