Cylinder Heads
« on: 10 April, 2026, 03:47:48 PM »
Hi,
I’ve just picked up my 2000 cylinder heads after being pressure tested, hot washed and chemically dipped.  They look very pretty, but of course they are both completely stripped.
Couple of questions hopefully easily answered.
1/  Is it only the inlet valves that have valve stem seals ?
2/  Am I right in thinking that the cylinder heads are interchangeable as in left to right.  (Mainly because I forgot to mark them.

Cheers,  Peter

Hi Peter

Its normal only to fit valve stem seals on the inlets. However, unless you have modified valve guides the 815 cannot take stem seals (none shown in parts book).

And heads are interchangeable unless previously modified (not sure why just CYA) by a previous owner for what ever reason

Thanks Tim

Although the car has a later 1800cc engine fitted, it also has an even later 2000 (820) head.

Whenever I work on this Flavia it’s always a surprise, pleasant or otherwise.

Hi Tim,

Without specifically asking for them, they came in the head/decoke set from Omicron.

If your valve guides have been replaced with a more modern design that can take a stem seal then nothing lost on fitting to the inlets. (If your guides are original they would need machining on the exposed bit at the top to take a seal.
