Oil filter
« on: Yesterday at 08:54:49 AM »
The oil filter drains when the engine is not running leading to that agonising wait on starting for the oil pressure needle to move.
Is there any  way to prevent this?

Have you heard of an Accusump? It's a bright blue anodized cylinder that stores oil under pressure. Connected to the engine via an oilway or a sandwich plate on the filter housing it can be triggered by a switch prior to startup to pressurise the engine and reduce start up wear. If you suffer from oil surge/starvation with low pressure during running the Accusump adds oil to the engine and, when normal oil pressure is restored then oil is pumped back into the Accusump ready for it's next call of duty.

Made in the USA it is available here and comes in various capacities - 1, 2 or 3 quarts.

I am in the process of fitting one during my Beta restoration.

If you order one please be aware that the valves come in manual and electric and have different pressure ranges. You would want one that triggers automatically when the oil pressure drops below normal for the Lambda.

I am not sure an Accusump works with older style engines where the oil pressure is dynamic i.e increases with revs, where as a more modern engine such as the Lampredi Beta engine the oil pressure is pretty much static at above tick over revs. I would be interested in views on this.
Its not the winning but taking part! or is it taking apart?
