B21 (?) on ebay

Wonderful news Appiaman...did you ever get diagrams of the A puillar areas to replace the metalwork? Have you any photos of work as you went along?

Is it the same as the B12 in this aspect or B10?

Pretty sure they are the same. One big bit of advise though make it in sections as you might get strong corners and then the doors don't fit.  My metal guy spend weeks getting door gaps right.

Not Christo here, but I do have the engine number... I inspected the car while it was on eBay.



I assume the engine hasn't been changed.  It was running really well when I looked at the car.

The report I wrote for a potential buyer is linked to below, in case anyone is interested to see it - should give an idea of the labours and expense that Christo must have been through.  Bravo!  It only took him 2 years too; I wish my Aurelia projects were moving with such admirable velocity.

Thanks for the photo William, but I don't think it makes it any clearer as it looks as if the engine number has been over stamped.
Looking at your video you can clearly see that the heads have the scewed valve gear as the rocker covers have the cut outs above the spark plugs. It also has twin carbs. This leads me to think that it has a 2nd series 2000cc B20 engine, unless the heads have just been changed (Not sure if this is possible). One possible explanation for this could be that the change of engine would have been a notifyable modification on the cars paperwork and to save this trouble in the past the engine has just been stamped with the cars original engine number. You would need to check the factory records to see what the original number was.

William, that is an excellent report you wrote. It uncovered the major problem of that car, a badly done coverup job, to hide all the defects on the body. There is in my view no alternative for any purchase, to a good, well documented inspection done by one or two specialists (body and mechanics)! Anything else is a gamble, and it can involve a lot of money! Still, that type of gamble is to me more fun than a visit at a casino!

Appiaman, congratulations on having made the deal, and having saved another berlina. They are such nice cars to use, and with the fitted B20 S2 motor you will have a lot of pleasure. Driving those early berlinas with the IRS is a completely different experience from driving a B12 with the later De Dion rear suspension!

I would love seing some pictures of the interior, which no doubt you must have had redone completely!

Thanks for the replies. The engine number is still like it was when William saw it, but according to the papers I have its been like that since the early 1970'S.
I have only done about 10 miles now in the car it has plenty small issues to sort out still.
One  thing i do have a problem with is one bank runs better than the other half but I am suspecting one set of point are burnt and the other are okay, any advise on that would be great too.
Restoring this car was a huge job and  I must admit my metal guy had plenty days were I think he was keen to tell me to take the car and just go as it was very complex to get the doors to fit really well again.
Money wise it has taken a load of money £30000 in invoices I have added up so far thats excluding money for my own time.

Well done Christo. I love the colour and the Aurelia Sedans are very good to drive although, as you have found out (!), the Sedan bodies can be very expensive to repair properly if there is major corrosion due to their complexity. And great to see another sedan on the road in the UK.
With your rough running engine, if the problem is just with one bank of cylinders you will almost certainly find the problem is in the distributor. I normally run the 'inner link' round the outside of the distributor which, whilst not as tidy, allows me to know that there is no earthing going on. But before doing this, double check that the carb for that bank is working properly of course.
I look forward very much to seeing your car in the not too distant future.

Appiaman, you have a beautiful flat Nardi steering wheel on your B21 (that compliments the beautiful interior). I assume that the original white plastic wheel was too far gone to be used. If you wish to buy a new one, check:

I have seen the first one at the LCF meeting in St Etienne, and it is incredible work: basically the complete steering wheel is remanufactured, including steel innards, horn ring, and logo. It is undistinguishable from an original wheel.
