Augusta/Belna Oil Filter
« on: 29 October, 2025, 10:06:04 AM »
In the last few months I have become the custodian of a very well looked after Belna (Pictures attached). One of the improvements I would like to make is to fit a modern oil filter. Looking back through newsletters I found that Dale Hick had designed one which has been in use on several cars for a long time. I have spoken to him, acquired his drawings and had a quote from an engineering company: for a quantity of 6 they would be £295 each +p&p. The filter they take is off a Renault 5 which is still readily available. I already have one other person interested. If anyone else is interested please let me know. £10 of the cost will be going to a Parkinson charity.

Hi Dave  Did you get any further interest in the filter housings?  Assume from you photo you already have one.
Cheers
Dale

There was just a bunch of Aprilia adapters made for a spin-on filter, and IIRC there was another version for Augustas? Simon Ingman led the charge on this, but also Gabberini (sp?) in Italy maybe helps.

I have had one on my car since the early 2000s since rebuild of engine with shells rather than white metal. No problems but a simple question.
How often should I change the filter? I have done it but cannot remember when (memory failure) but roughly how many miles?
Suspect as my engine does leak quite a lot of oil the repeated top-ups equal changes.

Dear Dave,

I would be interested in one...maybe two if you are still planning on going ahead.

Best wishes

Mario

You are the only person who has  replied to this. I need one, and if you could make up your mind whether you want one or two, I would talk with the manufacturer and see what he can do.

Best wishes

Dave

just so you are aware , there are 2 different autokleen designs on an augusta / belna 2bolt and 3 bolt , check your crankcases / autokleens before ordering to make sure you have the correct one

To Morris - thanks for the alert.
To Dave - can the engineers supply both 2 and 3 bolt versions.

I will take a close look at mine and let you know...They would be fitted to a pair of 1935 Augusta Cabrios

Hello Dave,

I have given this some thought and decided against converting to cannister - I think frequent oil change is probably a better option for me. Thanks anyway...
