Good evening,

It seems that every time I get close to the first start of my rebuilt engine I find another bit missing from my various boxes of bits collected with the car!

I find that I am now missing the following and would welcome any advice on sources for these parts or suitable alternatives:

Radiator cap - I do not know if this is standard or a later modification - see attached photo.
The elbow for the radiator hose on the near side (above Dynamo) of the cylinder head - see attached photo

On a different topic….. I may have been re-inventing the wheel but can share the following information regarding the AutoKlean oil filter…. If like me you had a perfect housing and ratchet mechanism but very poor/rotten internals (those fiddly little discs, stars and scrapers on the spindles) you can send it to AutoKlean in Derbyshire and they can replace/rebuild the internals at reasonable cost - the design has not changed in 100 years! They completed mine in a week for £250 including shipping.

Radiator cap: I have seen quite a few different types, mostly screw-on. I think the original was bayonet and Cavalitto sells them, but by the part number it's Aprilia.
In your case, if the female tread is still useable, have a cap with the corresponding tread made (from brass)
On my radiator, it looks as a brass tread was soldered onto the original opening a long time ago.

The other thing to watch when buying from Italy is to keep the cost below the import duty threshold. I bought a batch of parts from Elvizio and the duty was a bit mind focussing. I reckoned it would have been better to split the order, paying two lots of postage and packaging but not attracting import duty.

Karl/Frank many thanks for your informative replies. I am going to have one more rummage through all the boxes for the cap and hose connector and if that fails I will contact Cavalitto. I know what you mean about shipments from abroad attracting unpleasant fees but I have a plan....I have a friend who lives in France and I will be visiting in a few weeks so delivery to him and then bring it back with me!

Karl, when I bought the car I quickly realised both the dynamo and starter motor were missing. I looked at modern dynamos that would work (found one on the AES website) but as I would also need the regulator by the time I factored that cost in it seemed to me to be more sensible to buy a 'Dynamator' which is an alternator in the shape of a dynamo and has its own built-in regulator. I had read in the old Augusta Newsletters by Morris Parry that the same dynamo was installed on very early VW T1 vans. I found one designed to replace the Bosch dynamo manufactured by Tudor. This unit is 12V but as I needed to buy a starter motor anyway I decided to convert to 12V and bought a WOSP hi torque starter along with the Dynamator and a pulley I'm hoping it will all work out but it's all bit of a leap of faith!! I attach a picture of the Dynamator.
