Aprilia Nave plates (hub caps)
« on: 27 January, 2026, 09:20:13 PM »
In my experience, the Aprilia's precious chrome-plated hub caps are vulnerable to falling off when a road wheel hits one of our all-too-common potholes. Does anyone know how this was prevented back in the day, or does anyone have a method of securing them reliably to prevent this? Peter

Hi, I have lost hubcaps before and found the best way to keep them on was to tap the flanges on the wheel with a hammer to make the hubcaps fit tighter to the wheel - it usually works

Thank you, Simon. That is also what Peter Harding recommended, but how much is enough? I was thinking of a more positive attachment.

Pointless response, but a story: when I got my Aprilia I had early wheels and just 4 fine undamaged hubcaps to suit. On exiting a roundabout at Kenton I heard an unwelcome tinkle and located the errant hubcap in the rear view mirror just in time to see it crushed beyond redemption by a following lorry. Another delve into the Maltby treasure chest!

On my Ardea after losing hub caps, I fitted narrow, long jubilee clips on the flanges to grab the hub caps more efficiently. It seems OK so far.
