Hi Frank

I think this is a Beta engine as the inlet is at the front and the exhaust ports at the back if you orientate it with the timing belt to the right of the engine bay. I was under the impression that the Delta had a reversed port design with the exhaust ports at the front? Also never heard of a Supercharged Delta....

Never seen that type of inlet manifold on a Beta, nor that take off pipe near the cam wheel. Could it be out of a Dedra? I think one of the Dedra models had an 'old school' twin cam?

And yes, there wasn't a road going supercharged Delta AFAIK.

Yes, that's a Beta Volumex inlet manifold. I have an impression the Volumex engine was beefed up. ceramic head gasket and sodium filled valves etc.

No, All RHD 1800 & 2000 Dedra engines were the Lampridi Twin Cam engine with counter balancer shaft including the HF Turbos, the 1600 was the Fiat Tipo Tempra ,single cam engine.
Later on with 2nd series that were only lhd, there was a 1.6 Twin Can as fitted to Fiats, and a Turbo Diesel Engine.
The only engine that could be classed as old School I can think of, was the 2.0 8V integrale 4WD SW that was a non turbo engine, and was only built for about a year.
