Very interesting !

Is your car S1 or S2 ? The exhaust manifolds and engine mountings are different for the different series, so it will be great to see if your mods fit both

Series 1 I believe. I'm mid project and learning, but my experience is with Appia and Fulvia.

I don't know if you have seen these engine plans showing the oil flow ?

The engines are identified as MOT 97 ##### & MOT 99 #### for S1 1 S2 respectively - number on the rear engine mount on the carb side

That is exactly what I was looking for. The flow and return are the opposite of what I expected. I am off on holidays for a few weeks, but I have hopes of popping that engine into the car before the end of the year. It's just back from upholsterer.

I have seen a very neat spin on oil filter installation on an Aprilia at Brooklands, I plan to fit one to my Aprilia too...the owner gave me details of where he sourced it and I have contacted the suppliers (see below) - but Italy is on holiday currently - so no further details (or photos) yet.

Please keep us updated, and take pics if you happen to see one again. There is a satisfaction to fabricating this myself, but I'm not opposed to buying one if someone has one off the shelf.

I have a very similar arrangement on my Aprilia engine. It was made by Grant Cowie of Up The Creek Workshop in Castlemaine Victoria. He has made others and probably can make more.

Excellent photo. Thank you. That's what I'm aiming for. Has it any effect on oil pressure?

The Ardea is also fitted with a full flow filter, although this was done prior to my ownership and I am not sure by whom or how it is arranged

Neither the Aprilia or Ardea appear to have any oil pressure issues and I don’t think a modern full flow filter would cause one.

Andrew, that's a much neater installation than the one in my photo.
A Google search for 'remote oil filter housing ' comes up with lots of options. I'm sure a company like Pirtek could make the hoses. Then you just need to fabricate the mounting.

Andrew - are there any "internals" in your version ? Or is the "chamber" empty ?

I am open to correction here, but as far as I can make out, the chamber needs a tube to separate the flow and return

The conversion is relatively simple in that the tube and flange ( replacing the original filter) are machined in on piece. The “O “ ring on the bottom of the tube section creates the seal necessary to seperate the in and out flow. I did have the hoses made by a local hydraulic hose shop and I fabricated a bracket to fit to a pair of sump studs. The Ryco filter base hangs on this bracket. The only other part required was the right angled fitting to screw the hose to the flange at the top of the unit
