Appia Consortium News
« on: 24 April, 2017, 02:08:58 PM »
Hi all Appia Consortium members past, present and soon to be. Just to let you know I am running the membership and spares side of the consortium from now so Don has time to deal with the more tricky technical stuff. So if you need parts or membership details get in touch by email appiasparesconsortium@outlook.com or telephone 07533655636 I prefer an email as it keeps me up to date with any requirements you people may have I will probably forget a phone call unless I am at home with a pen and pad. Nice to report the membership renewals is coming along very well with over 20 replies already.
##### If you feel you should of received a renewal form and a newsletter please get in touch as I know already of one example where Royal Mail have let me down and a member did not receive his newsletter.####
One pleasing aspect of all this information whizzing around are the lovely stamps I have been getting landing on my mat.

Hi
A company called Sangalli Guarnizioni I have not seen the gaskets yet but they seem to know what they are doing

Hi all
I am deep into marking A level Classics papers at the moment so any turn around of parts will be a bit slow.

Hi all
During a lull in the fighting (marking) I took the opportunity to visit a local classic car auction at Thornton le Dale. The reason was they had a S3 saloon up for auction with no reserve. So early Saturday I arrived to find the car seen below. On closer inspection the radiator and dynamo had gone walkabout and the boot was locked and no keys...I'm guessing but the missing parts will be in the boot. Anyway by pulling on the fan belt I managed to get the engine to turn but only for about a quarter of a turn accompanied by some clunky noises from the engine...piston seized in the bore? the head had been off at sometime as the domed nuts were replaced with castellated ones...Hmmm. The interior was a bit tired with a big burn or rip in the front seat back and various switches missing along with all the armrests absent. The exterior had been resprayed a sickly green but rust was bubbling through a several places. Anyway the auction came and the bidding rapidly went past the consortiums budget and ended at £1000 but with transport and the buyers fee of £75 plus vat the real price came out at around £1250. As we only really wanted the car for spares this was a price too high. If any members of the LMC have bought this car please get in touch I'm dying to know what is in the boot! also we have as you all know a vast range of spares.
ps one thing struck me was that as the auction was held in the church hall opposite the cars were not driven through as at non classic auctions I have been to admittedly some would be hardpushed to move under their own power alot of money was changing hands on some of these cars Hmmm...Caveat emptor

My mate Terry came along for a wee trip north of the border to have a look at a car the consortium had been offered for spares...turned out to be very interesting as the owner informed us the car was registered in 1955 but is a S2 saloon? see the pics for more clues
